Netflix new releases: 7 shows and movies you need to stream this week (April 6-12)
Netflix is adding just 15 new movies, shows and live events to the streaming service this week, but there are still a few titles you won’t want to miss. Top of the list is a new series from “Schitt’s Creek” co-creator Dan Levy and “I Love LA” star Rachel Sennot. It also stars Levy in the lead role, so trust me, you won’t want to miss this new crime comedy show.
On the movies front, “Thrash” is the big name to watch this week. This survival thriller movie stars Phoebe Dynevor as a pregnant woman trapped in a hurricane. But it’s not just the hurricane she needs to survive, because the flooding has also brought sharks.

‘Big Mistakes
Genre: Crime comedy series
What it’s about: Nicky (Dan Levy) and Morgan (Taylor Ortega) are siblings who find themselves completely out of their element when they’re blackmailed into a life of organized crime.
Why you should watch it: Co-created by “Schitt’s Creek” co-creator Dan Levy and “I Love LA” creator Rachel Sennott, this show is almost guaranteed to be funny. I’ll certainly be checking this one out, just based on the trailer and pedigree alone.

‘Thrash’
Genre: Survival thriller movie
What it’s about: Lisa (Phoebe Dynevor) finds herself caught in a hurricane, and that’s not ideal under any circumstances. But it’s a real issue for Lisa, who is pregnant, and the hurricane has caused flooding that brings sharks into the streets where her car is trapped.
Why you should watch it: Surviving a hurricane is one thing; surviving a hurricane that floods your town with sharks is another. “Thrash” is giving “What if we put Academy Award-nominee Djimon Hounsou in ‘Sharknado’?” vibes, and I’m here for it.

‘Temptation Island’ season 2
Genre: Reality dating series.
What it’s about: Four couples in rough patches decide that the best way to fix their relationship is to hang out on a tropical island with a bunch of singles trying to have an affair.
Why you should watch it: The premise of this show is absurd, and these couples are almost certainly doomed to disaster. They’re certainly destined for drama. If you like a messy reality show, this one is for you.

‘Untold: Chess Mates’
Genre: Documentary movie
What it’s about: Magnus Carlsen is considered one of the greatest chess grandmasters of all time. But in 2022, he lost a shocking Sinquefield Cup match to rising star Hans Niemann … who was subsequently accused of cheating.
Why you should watch it: Yes, it’s a chess documentary, but the chess rivalry in question is scandalous. If you thought the topic of sex toys would never come up in a serious examination of professional chess, “Untold: Chess Mates” would prove you wrong.

‘Trust Me: The False Prophet’
Genre: True crime documentary series
What it’s about: “Trust Me: The False Prophet” chronicles the rise of Samuel Bateman, a self-proclaimed heir to the Mormon offshoot the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS). The story is told through the eyes of a couple, Christine and Tolga, who infiltrated his inner circle and gained Bateman’s trust, only to uncover evidence of horrifying evil.
Why you should watch it: As far as horrifying cult leaders go, you can put Bateman’s name up in the rafters with the best of them. Trigger warning for child sexual abuse, but if you’re able to get past that, this docuseries is a must-watch for true crime fans.

Tyson Fury vs Arslanbek Makhmudov
Genre: Live sporting event
What it’s about: Former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury returns to professional boxing for the first time in over a year. He’ll be taking on Arslanbek Makhmudov, who won the WBA Inter-Continental heavyweight title back in October against David Allen.
Why you should watch it: Fury is undoubtedly one of the best boxers of this century, but he’s coming off back-to-back losses against current unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. A win here could set up a third fight against the Ukrainian, but a loss could spell the end of Fury’s storied career.

‘At Home with the Furys’ season 2
Genre: Reality series
What it’s about: This British fly-on-the-wall documentary series follows former WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and his family around, chronicling all the crazy things that happen along the way.
Why you should watch it: This show is more about the fun Fury and his family can get into than about hitting you over the head with drama. But it does manage some deeper moments. If you liked shows like “The Osbournes,” you might enjoy “At Home with the Furys.”
